Three factors determine promotion K-4 through the 8th grade: Attendance, Mandated Testing, and Commensurate Course Work.

 

Attendance: 

  • Reference MPSA Policies and Procedures, p. 30, and LA Bulletin 77 p. 7.

  • K4 - 8th grade: 123 days of attendance for a four-day week

  • 9th-12th grades: 62 days of attendance per semester for a four-day week.

Mandated Testing:

Louisiana Educational Assessment Program guidelines are followed and are considered for promotion in grades 4 and 8.  In order to earn a Louisiana State Diploma, students must successfully complete the End Of Course (EOC) Testing

 

Course Work:  The demonstrated mastery of course skills is necessary for promotion.

 

Grade Level Course Work

K4 and K5: Satisfactory work (78% or better) in the following areas: pre-reading & mathematics

 

1st, 2nd, 3rdSatisfactory work in reading, mathematics, & language (comprehension,

spelling, penmanship). Students must acquire grade-level mastery (78 % or better) in cursive writing, beginning in th 2nd semester of the second grade as well as the 3rd grade in order to be promoted.         

 

4th: Satisfactory work in reading, mathematics and language and one of the following areas:  social studies, science. Students scoring unsatisfactory on both language arts and mathematics LEAP should not be promoted. Students must acquire grade-level mastery (78 % or better) in cursive writing and multiplication facts up to 12 X 12 in order to be promoted.

 

5th, 6th, 7thSatisfactory work in reading, mathematics and language and one of the following areas:  , social studies, science.

 

8thSatisfactory work in reading, mathematics, and language and one of the following areas:  social studies and science.  Students scoring unsatisfactory on both language arts and mathematics LEAP should not be promoted.

 

High School Grade Placement

 

            Grade placement in high school is determined by credits earned.  Students (9th grade prior to 2008-09)* must have 23 credits to graduate:  15 required and 8 elective.  Graduate Exit Examination requirements must also be met for graduation.

 

Freshmen 2008-09 need six (6) credits for 10th grade, twelve (12) credits for 11th grade, eighteen (18) credits for 12th grade, and twenty-four (24) credits and EOC requirements in order to recieve a diploma.
