Cutting Class = missing class without the permission of the teacher or the administration. First offence earns detention for three weeks; second offense earns suspension for one day; third offense earns a suspension for four days; fifth offense earns a recommendation for dismissal.
Dishonesty:
Academic Dishonesty = taking an exam or quiz or completing a project or assignment at the wrong time, in the wrong manner or in the wrong place (cheating) or representing someone’s work as one’s own. The first offence is a zero 0 on the activity with a letter of reprimand going to parents. The second offence is a zero 0 in the course, noting a zero in a high school course could make the student ineligible for graduation. The third offense is a recommendation for dismissal.
General Dishonesty = including but not limited to the falsifying of signatures, parental or otherwise; presenting documents such as doctor’s excuses as genuine when they are not; or misrepresenting (lying about) facts or actions. The first offence earns a recommendation for dismissal.
Dress Code Violations = not wearing the proper attire, in the proper manner and in the proper place as mandated by the dress code policy. Faculty and staff shall direct immediate correction of correctable violations. For non-correctable violations, such as a skirt which is too short, the student shall be sent home or a parent will bring appropriate apparel. An absence caused by a dress code violation is an unexcused absence. When a faculty or staff member encounters repeat offenders, twice of more, a referral will be sent to the principal. The first such referral will result in a one-day detention. The second referral will result in a three-day detention. The third referral will result in a one-day suspension. The fourth referral will result in a four-day suspension. The fifth referral shall be the final referral. It shall result in a recommendation for dismissal because the student will have proved not to be able to comply with the mission of Central School nor with the rules flowing out of that mission.
Drugs = possession, use or distribution (sale or purchase) of illegal substances, the possession, use or distribution of controlled substances, the possession of drug paraphernalia or alcohol on or off campus. The first offence earns an immediate suspension from school and a recommendation for dismissal. The authorities shall be notified.
Harassment = the demeaning, maligning or degrading through word or gesture the dignity and individuality of another, including acts commonly associated with bullying. The first offence earns a detention of three days; the second offence earns a suspension of four days; the third offence earns a recommendation for dismissal.
Inappropriate Objects on Campus = objects which serve no useful purpose in the school setting, including the parking lot, which could disrupt the learning environment or which could be harmful to others, including but not limited to matches, lighters, fireworks, stink bombs, and water guns. First offense earns reprimand, detention, suspension or dismissal, depending on the nature of the object. The object shall be confiscated. The authorities shall be notified if it is illegal contraband
Fighting = an aggressive act, including but not limited to hitting, kicking, butting, biting, scratching or shoving. First offence earns a four day suspension or dismissal depending on the nature of the altercation. In addition, criminal charges could be filed.
Inappropriate Language or Gesture = the uses of words, written or spoken, or gestures which are obscene, profane, vulgar or disrespectful. First offence earns a three week detention; second offence earns a one-day suspension; third offence earns a four-day suspension; fourth offense earns a recommendation for dismissal.
Insubordination = not carrying out a moral, legal and reasonable directive by a member of the staff or faculty of Central School. The first offense, depending on the consequences of the insubordination, can earn a reprimand, a detention, a suspension or a recommendation for dismissal.
Tobacco = the possession, use or distribution of any tobacco product (to be smoked or smokeless) on campus or at ANY school function. First offence earns a suspension of four days; second offence earns a recommendation for expulsion.
Truancy = an unexplained absence from school. A student is considered truant if the school receives no communication by phone, fax or e-mail from the parent explaining the student’s absence. A truant student earns no credit during the time of truancy and shall be placed in detention for the time commensurate with the truancy. Prolonged truancy shall result in a recommendation of dismissal. The Central School Corporation shall comply with the truancy laws of the State of Louisiana.
Vandalism = wanton destruction of the property of Central School, including but not limited to littering, defacing buildings, destroying equipment or teaching materials such as text books. The first offence earns a holding of all recordings until the damage has been paid as well as a suspension or the recommendation for dismissal depending on the nature of the act. If the cost rises to the level of a criminal act, charges will be filed with the proper authorities.
Weapon = any device which can cause grave bodily harm or death, including but not limited to firearms of all types, knives of all types and other devices engineered to cause bodily harm or death. First offence earns an immediate suspension and recommendation for dismissal. The authorities shall be notified if firearms or explosive devices are involved.
