Conduct and Discipline

Admission and Fees

Conduct is the behavior and the attitude of a student in word, gesture and deed.

Discipline is the action taken by parents and Central School to assist the student in conducting himself according to the Mission Statement of Central School through the use of reason and by applying the rules which flow out of the Mission Statement.  The ultimate goal of all good discipline is for the student to acquire self-discipline in social and academic matters, i.e. to acquire good character.  Discipline has two sides: the reinforcement of proper behavior with recognition and honors as well as the modeling of proper behavior and the execution of measured consequences for bad behavior.

Administrative Consequences

There are four levels of administrative consequences for improper behavior at Central School: reprimand, detention, suspension, dismissal.

Reprimand: a formal letter of warning with a parent conference

Detention:  assignment to weekly after-school custody for one to eight weeks

Suspension:  off-campus custody of parent or guardian for one to four days

Dismissal:  a permanent school-initiated withdrawal from Central School by the Board

Classroom Discipline is the system of rewards and consequences established by the classroom teacher.  Classroom discipline is tailored, sometimes yearly, to the makeup of a particular class, to the teaching style of the teacher, to the learning environment and to the nature of the subject or subjects being taught.  The best discipline, by reward or consequence, is acquired in the classroom.  To that end, parents and students should ensure that they thoroughly understand the academic and behavioral expectations and rules of each teacher.

Campus Discipline is the proper exercise of authority by all employees of Central School – substitutes, bus driver, cleaning and maintenance personnel, cafeteria employees and others – over students for their safety and welfare while under the care of Central School.  All adult employees of Central School are to be treated with respect and their directives, when moral, legal and proper, are to be carried out promptly and courteously.  These personnel will immediately refer all matters of discipline (consequences) to the principal.
