K4-8th: 123 days for a four day week

9th-12th: 62 days a semester for a four day week

Consequences

Students in K4 through the 8th grades will not be promoted if they are not in attendance the required 123 days for a four day week.

Students in the 9th through the 12th grades will not earn credit in courses if they are not in attendance the required 62 days a semester for a four day week.

Excused Absences

Absences are excused by the school in accordance with LA Bulletin 741.  Absences are excused for the following reason: illness of the student (documented by doctor); serious illness or death of an immediate family member; mandated court appearances or other legal requirement, educational activities sanctioned by the school.  Written documentation must be provided before an absence can be excused by the administration. Students who receive an excused absence must make up all work missed in a timely manner which is to be determined by the classroom teacher.  As far as possible, medical appointments should be made for Fridays. Missing a class is missing a learning opportunity.

Unexcused Absences

Unexcused absences are those absences which are not excused according to the preceding paragraph.  Unexcused absences include but are not limited to family vacations and outings, cosmetic appointments, or skipping school.  In addition, students who are suspended or who are suspended in lieu of expulsion earn unexcused absences for each day of the suspension.  The consequences for unexcused absences are as following: possibility of not earning enough days-present for promotion or credit; necessity to make up all required work for no credit because, even though no credit can be given, the teacher must be assured that the student has learned the material; possible failure of the grade or course due to reduced learning time.

Tardiness

A tardy is the failure of a student to be in the classroom in the assigned seat at and upon the tardy bell, whether it be for the beginning of the day as in home room or for a class period.

Consequences for tardies are as follows: 1st tardy – student is warned; 2nd tardy – teacher calls parent; 3rd tardy – student is given one day of detention; 4th tardy – student is given three days of detention, 5th tardy – student is suspended from school; 6th tardy – student is considered for further disciplinary actions, including but not limited to dismissal.
