Master Plan

On 13 January 2011, Mr. Ashe will initiate the last phase of the Master Plan.  There are normally two secessions: one for students and one for parents; however, students and parents will meet together at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium.  All parents are encouraged attend; however, it is especially important for parents of younger to addend since those younger students will likely reap the greatest benefit from the implementation of the Master Plan.

Upcoming English Events

Mrs. Johnson’s English classes – 8th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade, 12th grade – will be presenting the Spoon River Anthology later this spring.  The dates will be announced.

English II students will be researching their family history. Parents and relatives should actively support them in the project.

English III and IV students will be writing a research paper on some aspect of British or American literature.  They will need some quality time at home in order to successfully complete the project.

Computer Science

Mrs. Cunningham and her family have donated computer desks to replace the old tables in the lab.  We are very grateful to the Cunninghams for this generous gift.  With student help, the desks will be installed by Thursday, 13 January 2011.

1st Grade and 2nd Grade

A not-for-profit corporation directed by the wife of Governor Jindal has provided at no charge a smart-board system with support software to both the 1st and 2nd grades.  Another very generous donor has provided a substantial amount for Internet connectivity to support the smart-board system.

Witticism

Biblically, men are to make coffee: Hebrews!

Pioneer Games on the Radio

If you cannot get to the Pioneer Basketball games on Monday, 17 January 2011, then you can listen to the games on KJVC Radio (92.7 FM).  Mrs. Lori Slay, a Central School graduate, will be calling the play-by-play.

The report cards for the 1st semester of 2010-2011 will go out Wednesday, 12 January 2011.  The date was moved because of late exams.

Why do some theologians think that the three wise men might have been firemen?  Because the Bible says that they came from afar!

Fieldtrips

Mrs. Windham is planning two fieldtrips for her classes. One is her annual trip to South Louisiana; and the other is a trip to Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Look for more details in future newsletters.

Chapel

Mr. Jamison May, teacher of Religion and Survey of Fine Arts, oversees chapel.  Chapel services have been excellent.  Chapel is held every Monday, beginning at 9:40 a.m.  Parents are welcome and are encouraged to attend.

Library

Mrs. Pat Johnson, English teacher, is also our librarian of record.  She has done an excellent job in mobilizing volunteers to assist her in upgrading the library.  Those volunteers include students, faculty members, parents and friends of Central School.  The library is still a work in progress.  We are, however, proud of it.  When you are on campus, drop by the library.

Math A Thon

Mrs. Woods, our first-grade teacher, is coordinating the Math A Thon for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  The cost to run St. Jude’s is about 1.6 million dollars a day.  Please be receptive as students approach you for donations.  St. Jude’s is there for all of us if we need the service.

Thank You!

As headmaster and principal, I would like to thank each of you – students, parents, faculty and staff, members of the board and friends of Central School for a great first semester this year.  I look forward to great things in the second semester.
